Akin's film, already hailed by critics as taking the indigenously German genre of 'Heimat-Film' out of its mothballs and injecting it with new life, has won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival in autumn. It is scheduled to open across Germany at Christmas, but has already been sold to numerous foreign territories, including Spain, Italy, France, Greece, and the UK, where it is slated to open early next year.
